Building a home is one of the biggest and most exciting things you’ll do in a lifetime. And we believe it should be treated that way.

As a family-run business our process is personal, with you at the centre of it. Keeping you in the loop and comfortable to ask questions or suggest changes, is part of what makes building with us so enjoyable. You’ll always feel like one of the family.

Although each build is different, below is an overview of what to expect when you build a First Home’s home.

Get to know you and your wishlist

Whether you’ve chosen a plan, or dreaming of something completely different, our first step is to get to know you. The more we know about you, your potential building challenges, and goals for the home, the more we can help.

Location, location, location

Next step is a site visit. While we’re there we get the section levels done and look at options for things like house orientation to make the most of the view or light, driveway location, and any earthwork needs.

Dreams become concepts

Once we have a good idea of your dreams and your site, we can get to work and turn them into a plan. Whether you are choosing a plan and personalising it, or having one designed from scratch, our designer will create a house plan to suit your site, brief and budget.

Plan sign off

We meet and go over your plan and our recommendations, as well as any changes or questions you have. You might say “this is perfect, let’s start” or you might want to make some more tweaks. Either way, we’ll work with you to make it perfect.

We quote you

We can give estimates before we get to this point, but once your plan is signed off we can give your full build quotation. This will be based on the specifications for the build (such as cladding and finishes) so you know exactly what to expect.

Consent, colours and cheersing

Once the price and plan is signed off, we submit your plan to your local council and get started. This step deserves a glass of bubbles to celebrate as it means your home is about to get built. While the plans are with council, our colour consultant sits down with you to explore your exterior and interior selections.

Construction begins

With all of the planning complete, the only thing left for you to do is to sit back and watch your home get built. We’ll keep you updated with images and videos using our project management app. During construction we’ll invite you along to different milestones, so you can walk through your home and make any last changes such as the height of the windows or placement of light switches. This is your build.

Get your keys

When it comes time for you to get the keys to your new home, we do a walk-through with you to make sure you are happy and to cover any warranties with you. Then you’re free to pop the bubbles and move in.

Call us, any time

For the 12 months after handover we have a maintenance and defects period for your peace of mind. But even after those 12 months, we’re still here to assist long after the build is finished. Just give us a call.
